‘Chin up Team Bharat’: Assam CM Backs India After World Cup Heartbreak

Guwahati: Support poured in for team India from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Sarma and other leaders in the state after Australia took home the World Cup for the sixth time in a massive heartbreak for Indian fans who waited to see the Men in Blue lift the cup in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

After India’s defeat to Australia in the high-voltage final match, leaders across political parties took to social media to express their solidarity with the Indian cricket team.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was present at the Narendra Modi Stadium to witness the summit clash, said that the Indian cricket team played excellent cricket throughout the tournament and spread happiness across the nation.

Taking to X after India lost the final match against Australia, Chief Minister Sarma wrote, “Chin up Team Bharat! You have played excellent cricket throughout the tournament and spread happiness across the country. Today’s performance has also been spirited and though short of the finish line, this team has played like true champions. We stand with you, today and always.”

Chief Minister Sarma also congratulated the Australian cricket team on lifting the coveted trophy for the sixth time.

“Congratulations to Team Australia on lifting the coveted ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Having bounced back after initial setbacks, the team has truly played like Champions, powered by Travis Head’s century and a superb bowling attack! Congratulations Cricket Aus!,” Chief Minister Sarma said.

Earlier, Chief Minister Sarma exuded confidence that Team India would sail through, powered by their bowling attack, after they were restricted to a modest total of 240.

After India’s innings, Chief Minister Sarma wrote, “A tricky pitch and some good bowling & fielding by the Aussies have ensured that Bharat’s score is restricted to 240. But, I am confident that our superb bowling attack will contain the opponents and ensure lifting of the coveted CWC 2023 Final cup! Go boys, the entire nation is behind you.”

On the other hand, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that though India could not win the World Cup title, the Indian cricket team has raised the standards of cricketing with its show of excellent sportsmanship, skill and teamwork throughout the matches.

“We are left with complete admiration for the fighting spirit of Team India in the World Cup 2023 finals. We lost the World Cup but Team India has raised the standards of cricketing with its show of excellent sportsmanship, skill and teamwork throughout the matches. Well done boys!,” Chief Minister Sangma wrote on X after India’s loss to Australia in the final.

Assam MP and Deputy Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, said that the entire nation is proud of Team India and stands with it.

“To our Team India, Captain Rohit Sharma and his galaxy of stars. All of you have shone brightly on the biggest stage in cricket. Today the entire country stands with you and is proud of who you are and what you represent. You do not grieve alone, we are together always,” Gogoi wrote on X.
